The patient list-view is the main area of the system for managing patients and can be accessed from the Patients option on the main navigation bar (on the left-hand-side of the screen, or via the burger menu icon on a phone). Unfiltered, it displays the list of all patients for which at least one specimen exists in the system (in the specimens list-view and/or the specimen Archive).
Note: Patients cannot exist in the system without specimens, which is why there is no option to add a patient directly within the patient list-view. Patients are added during the specimen creation process in the case where an existing patient cannot be found for the specimen (see ??????).
The patient list-view functions like a standard list-view, with patient-specific columns, filters, and actions. Unlike the specimen list-view, it does not include structural enhancements such as batching or workflow enforcement. For details of the shared properties and capabilities of all list-view types, see <link>List Views</link>.
Key functions of the patient list-view include:
- View Patient: See full details of an individual patient record, including any existing specimens.
- Edit Patient: Change patient attributes, such as name, date-of-birth, address, etc.
- Add Specimen: Create a specimen with an implicit binding to the patient in scope (the patient selection pages of the specimen form are bypassed). This provides an alternative to locating the patient from within the specimen form and allows you to see the broader patient context before creating the specimen.
- Merge Patient: Consolidate duplicate patient records into a single entry, transferring any associated specimens to the merged patient.
- Print Barcode: Print a patient specific label, e.g. for a name-tag or a patient information board. This can include a patient barcode, QR code and any other patient attributes, per the patient label configuration (see ??????).
- Add Comment: Attach either administrator‑curated standard comments or free‑text notes to a patient record. These comments can be shared with other users and included in reports.
- Diary: Display a chronological timeline of patient events, with details on each event’s timing and responsible staff.
Instructions for using these actions are provided in the following sections, beginning after Understanding the Patient Record View.
