What are event permissions?
SEDRI LIMS makes use of a comprehensive role-based permissions system. The two sets of permissions present in the system are menu permissions, which govern read access and event permissions, which govern any action a user can take to add, edit or remove data.
Permissions are assigned to roles and are configured and managed from the role workflows. Roles in turn are allocated to users, so any user assigned a role will inherit the corresponding set of configured permissions.
How are event permissions managed and configured?
1. Event permissions are managed from the "manage event permissions" window, which can be accessed through the add or edit role workflows.
2. When an event permission is enabled, the UI will facilitate the action. In this case we have been granted the "Add a new user" event permission, so the relevant button appears:
3. From the manage menu permissions window, which appears as part of the workflow whenever adding or editing a role, the user is able to specify event permissions:
4. Selecting a topic from the dropdown generates a set of toggles. Clicking a toggle grants or removes the ability to execute the corresponding event- In this case the ability to add a new user has been disabled:
5. Clicking Save at the bottom of the window applies the changes, which become effective upon logging in again.
6. Having removed "Add User" as an event permission and subsequently logged back into the system, we can see that it no longer exists as an option on the users screen.
