Manage Permissions using Client Organisations

There are two ways of giving access to a patients data in the system. Each user can be allocated to either a Laboratory or an Organisation, but not both.

1. Give access to a Laboratory.

This access would typically be given to somebody who works in the Laboratory and is involved in the testing of specimens.

2. Give access to a Client Organisation.

A Client Organisation is an organisation outside of the Laboratory who will typically be providing specimens to the Laboratory for testing. When a user is allocated to a Client Organisation they will be able to see the details for all patients and specimens that they have sent to a Laboratory. This allows people to see the results of their test requests on the system.

Typical Scenario:

A Laboratory in a hospital may receive specimens to test from all departments and wards in a hospital. Typically some departments may contain multiple wards. All the departments can be defined as separate Client Organisations in the system. The wards can also be defined as separate Client Organisations in the system but put inside their relevant departments.

A user who belongs to a particular ward will only be able to see the specimens requested by that ward.

A user who belongs to a department will be able to see all the specimens requested by the department including all specimens requested by any wards within the department.
