Toggle Report Preview

A specimen record may be accessed either directly, via View in the specimen list-view (or in the patient‑specific list-view within a patient record), or indirectly, where it appears on the left-hand-side of certain forms such as Submit or Approve, providing confirmation of the specimen being processed. In all cases, users can switch to a report‑style preview of the specimen details, showing the information exactly as it would appear on a generated report.

The following steps describe access from within a standard specimen record-view.

Step 1

Select the Specimens option from the main menu.

Note: The visibility of main menu options is determined by menu permissions. For more information about configuring menu permissions, see: Understanding menu permissions.

Step 2

While the majority of actions specific to an individual specimen can be accessed directly from the specimen list-view or from within the specimen record-view, Toggle Report Preview can only be accessed from within the record-view.  For the specimen you wish to view from the main list, display the specimen record using one of the following methods:

  • Select the “eye” icon in the second column of the specimen row (hover over each action icon to see the meaning)
  • Double-click anywhere on the specimen row except for the action icons
  • Click once on the desired specimen row (anywhere except for the action icons), then press the Enter key

Step 3

Assuming the current role has the corresponding event permission (see Understanding Event Permissions), the Toggle Report Preview action will be available on the action row, just below the page title (Specimen Record).  Select the Overflow icon (“...”) if the action is not immediately visible.

While off by default, selecting the Toggle Report Preview action will convert the specimen record display area (below the action bar) to a report preview, as a report would appear if immediately generated.

Step 4

Selecting the Toggle Report Preview action again returns the specimen record display to its standard mode.
