Understanding Tables

Tables in SEDRI-LIMS are named sets of options that are associated with drop-down or combo-box fields.  Every such field in the system has a corresponding table that can be managed in a single place that is accessible via Administration : Tables from the main navigation menu.

The tables page (see below) is a standard list-view for managing tables.  For details of the shared properties and capabilities of all list‑view types, see <link>List Views</link>.

It provides the following actions (subject to permissions):

  • Add Table: Create a new table that can be linked to an existing or new drop‑down or combo‑box field, and to which selectable options can be added.
  • Edit Table: Change the description of an existing table.
  • Delete Table: Delete an existing table (once it has been de-linked from any drop-down or combo-box fields).
  • Add Table Entry: Add an option to an existing table.
  • Edit Table Entry: Change the name or enablement of an existing option.
  • Delete Table Entry: Remove an option from an existing table (provided it is not already in use).
  • Order Table Entries: Change the order in which options appear for selection when bound to drop-down or combo-box fields.

When you open the Tables list-view, the Specimen Type table is selected by default, and its options displayed in the main list. This table is set as the default because specimen types are typically highly laboratory‑specific and therefore frequently customised.  The selected table name is displayed in the table selector filter on the right-hand-side of the filter bar.

Use this field to select the table you wish to modify.  Then select a table entry from the main list if you wish to edit or delete an option.
