Following an intensive five month cloud-hosted pilot at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex (OAUTHC) in the Osun state of Nigeria, with very few problems reported, we deployed the latest version of SEDRI-LIMS to a local university server. Once approved, we were able to declare it a live site and real patient data is now being entered.
It's amusing to reflect on the steps leading up to this. After about three months of trouble-free piloting, with vast amounts of test data being entered every day, I put the question to Professor Oladipo Aboderin: "So, do you have a rough timeline of when you might like the system to go live?", to which he replied, after a moment's consideration, "would Wednesday be ok?" :-) Ironically, we ended up being significantly delayed, firstly by the decision of whether to adopt the cloud-hosted or locally installed deployment option, then whether to deploy to a workstation in the lab or to acquire space on the university server, which was eventually granted.
As also mentioned in an earlier post, Professor Aboderin announced in a presentation at the ASLM conference in Cape Town that SEDRI-LIMS was "a microbiologist's dream" :-) We sincerely hope it continues to live up to expectations! Thank you Dipo and team for all your efforts and for putting your faith in SEDRI-LIMS - we won't let you down!
