Following demos and discussions with Matthew McCarroll and colleagues at the Association of Public Health Laboratories (APHL), SEDRI-LIMS has now been added to their directory of available public health laboratory tools.
For some background, the Global Lab eTools repository "was initiated by the Global Fund in collaboration with the Association of Public Health Laboratories (www.aphl.org). The intent is to assist country health leaders, public health laboratories, and key decision makers with reviewing, comparing, and evaluating laboratory tools to select and implement the tool best suited to their laboratories."
As part of the process, a questionnaire was completed, ranking product maturity in a number of categories. A 500 word (maximum) description was also required, along with a map of current site deployments. Compressing everything about the program, functionality and benefits of SEDRI-LIMS into 500 words was a brutal but valuable exercise, although we are already ruing certain omissions! We have to remember that it is only a snapshot and will require regular updates as maturity, functionality and deployed locations increase. Anyway, our entry is here and is one of only six open-source LIMS systems listed at time of writing (and the only open-source LIMS with advanced microbiology and AMR support). Early indications show that we are already getting a good hit rate!
